REV GROUP TO SPONSOR RACE OF CHAMPIONS EVENT
RACE CAR DRIVER HELIO CASTRONEVES TO WEAR REV FIRE SUIT IN #REVROCs WEEKEND EVENT AT MARLINS PARK IN MIAMI
Usually in most sports, the best competitor wins. Period. The equipment, like running shoes, golf clubs and tennis racquets, aren’t as important as the athlete. But in motor racing, competitors will tell you that the vehicle plays a far greater role in the win. And so with a wide range of cars and varying formats of competition, everyone is left arguing who’s really the best in the racing industry.
That’s where the Race Of Champions comes in — and this year, REV Group is part of the equation. This annual event, notching its 28th year, brings together 16 of the world’s finest drivers and pits them against each other on the very same track in the very same cars to battle for the coveted ROC title. And because REV understands what it takes to build a well-oiled machine, we’re one of the sponsors this year.
Slated for Jan. 21 and Jan. 22, the Race Of Champions is a two-day affair at Marlins Park in Miami. On Saturday, drivers compete in a series of races, swapping identical machinery between heats, in this knockout competition. In the end, only one champion is crowned. Then on Sunday, drivers team up with their fellow countrymen to compete in pairs for the ROC Nations Cup — AKA world bragging rights. Each driver races against another opposing team driver to notch a team score. If the score is tied 1-1, the winning drivers battle in a playoff for the win. The head-to-head pairings continue until only two drivers are left standing.
And speaking of “winning drivers,” three-time Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves will be in the mix as he vies for the 2017 title. (REV is the proud sponsor of Castroneves during the regular racing season, and he even rolls to the track in his very own American Coach, one of REV’s luxury motor coach brands. He’ll even be wearing the REV fire suit during the race … so you know which driver we’ll be rooting for.)
The venue — always a stadium — makes the Race Of Champions unique because it puts fans closer to the action. This year marks the first year the race has been held in the United States as ROC officials convert Marlins Park, the home field of the Miami Marlins baseball team, into a roaring track under the stadium’s retractable dome.
During the two-day racing celebration, drivers can retreat to the REV Driver Lounge, and outside the stadium in “Sand Village,” REV will display three of its own game-changing vehicles — two ambulances and Castroneves’ motor coach.
Prior to the race, REV is giving away two pairs of ROC tickets via our social media channels. To enter, list your favorite REV brand, name the REV-sponsored driver who’s competing in the ROC and tag your response with @REVGroupInc #REVROCs. Two random winners will be chosen at 9 p.m. EST on Jan. 19, which means the clock is ticking! So get your entries because the Rock Of Champions is about to begin!
