REV Group Announces Annual Training Conference for Emergency Vehicle Technicians

by | May 2, 2025 | REV SPECIALTY VEHICLES SEGMENT, AEV, E-ONE, FERRARA, HORTON, KME, LADDER TOWER, LEADER, REV FIRE GROUP, SMEAL, SPARTAN EMERGENCY RESPONSE

BROOKFIELD, Wis – May 2, 2025 – REV Group announces that registration is now open for its annual Fire Truck Training Conference (FTTC).  Founded 31 years ago, the FTTC has developed into the largest and most in-depth, hands-on combined Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) training symposium and testing event in the U.S. Building on the success of last year’s conference, the event will include additional training content related to ambulances, in addition to fire trucks.  The FTTC will be held at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Michigan from September 21 to 26, 2025.

An estimated 400+ first responder driver-operators, technicians, equipment manufacturers, dealers, service center representatives and more from the U.S., Canada, and Latin America are expected to attend and learn the latest techniques for repairing fire trucks and ambulances. New training for 2025 includes Fleet Management / Leadership and Ambulance Maintenance courses.

“We are proud to host this important industry-wide event that was founded on the principle that keeping fire apparatus and ambulances up and running, regardless of the manufacturer or brand, is important to protect all our communities,” said Chris McClung, vice president, REV Fire Group.

In addition to the training and testing that takes place, the conference also serves to honor and celebrate emergency vehicle technicians. Two awards will be given at this year’s event, the William F. Foster Award, named after the conference’s founder who passed away earlier this year, and Firehouse Magazine’s EVT of the Year Award.  The EVT of the Year Award winner will be selected later this year by a committee of EVTs and Chiefs selected by Firehouse Magazine to determine who best meets the criteria and works to ensure the firefighters and citizens are safe.

Over the four days, more than 50 unique courses are offered, which span repairing brake systems, roll-up doors, electrical systems, pressure governors, pumps, and more. In the Component Classes, attendees can meet with suppliers one-on-one to address specific troubleshooting issues and learn the latest maintenance tips and techniques. In addition, attendees have two opportunities to take their EVT certifications exams. The courses are taught by product and industry experts, and the attendees also benefit from the many opportunities to network and share best practices with their peers.

FTTC was founded by Spartan Fire Chassis in the 1990’s and is now sponsored by REV Specialty Vehicles Segment fire apparatus and emergency vehicle manufacturers including Spartan Fire Chassis™, E-ONE®, KME®, Ferrara®, Spartan Emergency Response®, Smeal™, Ladder Tower™ AEV®, Horton®, Leader®, Road Rescue® and Wheeled Coach®, and numerous industry suppliers.

Early registration discount rates begin May 1 and end on June 30. For more information and to register, visit http://firetrucktraining.com.

San Bernardino County Fire Protection District Orders 10 Modular-Designed KME Pumpers

San Bernardino County Fire Protection District Orders 10 Modular-Designed KME Pumpers

by | May 1, 2025 | KME, REV FIRE GROUP, REV SPECIALTY VEHICLES SEGMENT

HOLDEN, LA – May 1, 2025 – Kovatch Mobile Equipment Corp. (KME), a subsidiary of REV Group and a leading manufacturer of fire apparatus, announces that San Bernardino County Fire Protection District has ordered 10 K-180 pumpers, which is a pre-engineered, modular design that can be built and delivered faster than fully customized units. KME’s California dealer, Fire Apparatus Solutions, is responsible for the order and will handle the service and aftermarket support for the units.

The order comes following the approval from the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to allow the Fire Department to update their frontline fleet. These units will be put into service immediately and then used as reserves once more customized fire apparatus are delivered. REV Fire Group designed and launched the modular series to simplify the purchasing process, accelerate the upfront and engineering processes and reduce complexity in manufacturing, allowing for more rapid delivery of new apparatus.

“This money from the Board allowing the purchase of these additional fire engines will give us operational depth that allows us to flex and rise to the needs of additional emerging incidents,” said Chief Eric Sherwin, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District.

These 10 K-180 pumpers (Model #4119) are low hose bed, side mount pump panel engines with additional standard features:

Chassis: Panther EMFD
Axles: Front 20,000 Lb. / Rear 24,000 Lb.
Engine: Cummins X12 500hp
Body: Aluminum
Pump: Waterous ESU 2000 gpm
Tank: Poly 500 Gal. Water/ 20 Gal. Foam
Foam: FoamPro 2001

“San Bernardino County Fire has been a customer of KME pumpers, aerials, and water tenders that have been highly customized to meet their needs. So, we are proud Fire Apparatus Solutions was able to collaborate with the department on the K-180 pumper that will help them continue to protect lives and property across the county,” said Mike Virnig, president, REV Specialty Vehicles Segment.

KME dealer Fire Apparatus Solutions is known for their service abilities and helps fleets with body repair including panel / structural / plumbing modifications and repairs. In addition, Fire Apparatus Solutions offers in-house pick-up and delivery of units and parts, as well as mobile on-site services.
