Horton and IMMI Enhance Ambulance Safety with MBrace for Attendant Seat

Horton and IMMI Enhance Ambulance Safety with MBrace for Attendant Seat

by | Mar 10, 2025 | HORTON, REV AMBULANCE GROUP, REV SPECIALTY VEHICLES SEGMENT

GROVE CITY, OH – March 10, 2025 – Horton Emergency Vehicles, a brand of REV Group Inc.’s subsidiary Halcore Group, Inc, and a leader in ambulance safety, has partnered with IMMI to introduce the Horton Occupant Protection System™ (HOPS) featuring MBrace™ in the ambulance attendant seat.

First launched in 2023 for the side-facing CPR seat and squad bench, patent-pending MBrace is the first airbag safety system designed specifically to protect emergency care providers inside the patient compartment during ambulance rollovers and frontal impacts. It deploys within a fraction of a second and moves with the occupant during a collision, significantly increasing neck and head protection by securing and limiting spinal and head movement.

“Safety is part of Horton’s DNA, so we are proud to partner with industry leader, IMMI, to be the only ambulance manufacturer in the industry to offer this level of protection for the emergency services providers in the attendant seat,” stated Mike Albers, vice president and general manager for Horton Emergency Vehicles.

Research shows that most ambulance accident fatalities result from frontal collisions. 1 In addition, it is estimated that 2,000 EMS workers are injured each year in work-related motor vehicles accidents.2 Both Horton and IMMI are committed to protecting first responders so that they can perform their lifesaving duties. Designed and engineered by IMMI and tested extensively with Horton ambulances at the Center for Advanced Product Evaluation (CAPE), MBrace takes EMS protection to a new level.

“It’s a privilege to partner with Horton Emergency Vehicles because of their continued commitment to work tirelessly with us on innovations that save lives,” said Larry Gray, IMMI CEO.

All Horton ambulances currently include HOPS featuring MBrace in the CPR seat and squad bench; all orders received on and after June 1, 2025, will also have MBrace in the attendant seat.3

The MBrace system will be on display in the Horton Emergency Vehicles booth #4356 and the IMMI booth #4369 at FDIC International in Indianapolis, Indiana from April 10 – 12, 2025.

Find out more information about MBrace at www.hortonambulance.com.

Orange County Fire Authority is adding these 10 pumpers as replacement trucks for its current in-service paramedic fire engine companies in Orange County, California.

Features of the 10 KME Severe Service pumpers include:

KME SSX chassis
Cummins X12 500 hp engine with Allison 4000EVS
Hale Qmax 1500 gpm pump
500-gallon water tank
30′ overall length
170″ wheelbase

These 10 pumpers will be a continuation of the significant design changes that Orange County has made to its fire apparatus since 2021, according to Battalion Chief Mark Backoff. These include Hendrickson SteerTek and FireMaxx suspension for an improved suspension ride, additional upper body storage compartments, a hose reel line, and a bumper line while still maintaining the Clean Cab concept utilized in its apparatus since 2019.

“As an agency with 78 fire stations and just under 200,000 incidents per year, these new fire engines will provide our firefighters the updated safety and technology features not currently enjoyed on our apparatus,” said Backoff. “This will give them the ability to serve our communities and citizens for the next couple of decades.”

“We are honored to have the continued trust and confidence of the Orange County Fire Authority,” said Tim Besser, Sales Manager, KME.  “We look forward to many years of our apparatus continuing to support Orange County’s firefighters as they serve their community.”
